Chapter 22

Naz looked at Eli and groaned desperately. “Rain check?”

“Rain check.” Eli confirmed as he stood.

The two of them raced towards the door, nearly running into each other and Ziran in the process. In seconds they were jogging down the hall with Sira taking up the rear. They reached the family lounge when Aria joined them, still in her pajamas. With a nod, they followed the trio into the throne room where Faelor and the queens were already waiting, along with an orcish woman Eli recognized from his earlier training sessions with Naz’s tribe. She was supporting a wounded high elf with one arm, and Eli could see another one on the floor being tended to by healers.

“Mirosha!” Naz cried as she entered the room.

She turned towards them, her jet-black ponytail swinging as she did. She stood a towering 8’ tall, and was built like a powerlifter – all muscle, everywhere. She had a set of armour which was made up of hardened leather and chainlink metal, and she had a pair of heavy-looking metal boots on. Eli could see cuts and bruises on her green skin.

“Naz!” The orc answered. “We need your help.”

Eli was only a step behind Naz when she embraced her tribe-mate. “I need all the information you have, right now.” He started.

“The champion of the Verinthas. Yes of course.” Mirosha nodded. “3 liches attacked the portal with an army of skeletons. We’re trying to fight them off but there’s too many of them!”

Zee and Lilly burst into the room, still in their pajamas as well. They were flanked by half a dozen guards carrying chests of weapons and armour and placed them at Eli’s feet. Lilly began healing the high elf while the orcish woman continued speaking and Eli frantically strapped on his equipment. “We need to go right now. The whole tribe is in danger, and when I left to get you we were about to lose the portal!”

Eli looked at Naz, who just finished putting on her own equipment. “I’m going in.” She said as more of a statement than a question.

“Of course.” Aria said from behind them before turning to Zee.

Zee nodded in response, knowing what she was about to ask. “I’ll get the QRF.”

“We don’t have time to waste!” Mirosha cried out. “The portal is in danger now. If it falls, they’ll be able to block our travel there – cutting us off!”

Eli glanced around, picking out the few people who were ready to go immediately. “Naz, Sira, Ziran, Mirosha – you’re with me. We go in and hold that portal until the QRF can follow up. Everyone else, come as soon as you can!”

With a quick nod to Aria, Lilly, and Zee, Eli raced through the throne room with Naz and Mirosha in tow. They rounded the corner into the palace’s portal room and saw a castle guard holding the portal open. They raced through the portal to Earth, only to emerge into a room with a second portal waiting open for them.
